Principal Investigator
Penelope Lockwood
Poppy Lockwood completed her undergraduate degree in English Literature and History at the University of Western Ontario. She went on to complete an MA in English Language and Literature at Queen’s University before pursuing graduate studies in Psychology. She completed her PhD at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Ziva Kunda. In 1999, she joined the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto. Her research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada since 1999. She is a Fellow of both the Society for Personality and Social Psychology and the Society of Experimental Social Psychology. She served for several years as the Department of Psychology Associate Chair, Undergraduate, and served as the Faculty of Arts and Science Vice-Dean, Academic Planning, from 2016 to 2023.

Kaitlin Derbyshire
Kaitlin’s past research investigated whether explicit-implicit attitudinal ambivalence influenced individuals’ relationship outcomes such as jealousy and optimism levels. She is currently exploring how social comparisons impacts individuals’ relationships.
Tayler Wells
Tayler’s research explores romantic relationships, with a focus on satisfaction and commitment to each other. She is currently interested in how social media use impacts romantic relationships, and whether posting or consuming relationship-based content helps or hinders your own partnership.
Lab Manager
Kanika Choudhary
Kanika graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours BSc in Psychology and Biology for Health Sciences in 2021. She completed an independent project at the Lockwood Lab investigating the impact of social media on narcissistic goals. As the lab manager, her role is to support lab members with all matters related to research.
